Stanley Picker Gallery and Dorich House Museum, in association with the Office For Fair Access at Kingston University, invite educators of all key stages to join us for a special networking evening at the Museum, which overlooks Richmond Park on Kingston Vale, on Thursday 11 February 5-7pm. Attendees will have the chance to find out about both organisation’s programmes and the University’s Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture, learning how they and their students can get involved, while networking with other educators and art and design professionals in an informal and creative environment.
Excitingly, the event falls corresponds with our Love Artists week, meaning that should you feel inspired there will be plenty opportunity to return again swiftly with creative colleagues.
Dorich House Museum, which re-launched in October 2015, was the original studio home of the Russian sculptor Dora Gordine (1895-1991) and her husband the Hon. Richard Hare (1907-1966). Now Grade II listed, the building was completed in 1936 to Gordine’s design, and is an exceptional example of a modern studio house created by and for a female artist, and remains home to the couple’s artworks and collections. In her speech at the re-launch event, former Director of Tate Britain and now Director of the Gulbenkian Museum Lisbon, Penelope Curtis acknowledged that ‘to be able to see [sculptural] figures inside an architecture designed by a sculptor herself is really a remarkable opportunity’.
Accompanied by free light refreshments (drinks and nibbles), our main activities, including an informal guided visit of Dorich House Museum, programme presentations and – if we’re lucky – a behind the scenes peep into the store. Practitioners of all disciplines are welcome to join us although emphasis will be placed upon opportunities that complement art and design related curriculum, and we will ensure no one leaves empty handed by offering ‘goody bags’ containing hard-copy print, postcards, posters and badges.
In a dash after school? Limited free parking is available onsite. For details about this and building location and accessibility please see the venue leaflet.
