Stanley Picker Gallery is pleased to be launching ‘The Stylophone Orchestra’, the first ensemble of its kind – completely comprising of battery-powered (cheap) synthesisers.
The orchestra, which formed in January 2019, is the brainchild of Dr Leah Kardos, Senior Lecturer in Music at Kingston University, and is comprised University students, staff, and members of the general public. They feature the full range of battery powered stylophone instruments available, the S1, Gen X-1, S2 and 350s, as well as vintage units donated by Dubreq (a manufacturer), along with Korg Volca units, Suzuki Omnichord, vocal synthesiser and Moog Theremin.
The launch event and first public performance by The Stylophone Orchestra, which they are “really excited about”, will take place on Friday 29 March 6-9pm as part of House of Lots Live. This event is free, and all are welcome to attend. We hope that you can make it!
