Stanley Picker Gallery is pleased to be holding a free creative drop-in (welcome anytime event) for SEND children and young people of all ages, and their families.

The session will be led by a team of Kingston School of Art students and alumni, and will include the opportunity to participate in creative activities such as badge making, drawing, and ‘search and find trails’ through our current exhibition, Under Construction, images of which will shortly be available on the linked webpage.

The exhibition presents more than a decade of ambitious live-build projects led by architect Takeshi Hayatsu with a growing cohort of participants and community partners. Since 2011, these projects have provided imaginative and highly resourceful responses to their chosen locations in collaboration with diverse communities around Kingston, Surbiton, Tolworth and beyond.

Under Construction presents a selection of these past projects through tactile materials, highlighting different craft techniques, scale models, and re-constructed structures. It is a very sensory environment, appealing to little fingers. Later exhibition an entirely new live build will take place at the Stanley Picker Gallery, developed with the 2024-25 cohort of Unit 5 MArch students from the Department of Architecture and Landscape at Kingston School of Art, Kingston University. This will include a temporary rammed earth Shrine outside the entrance and a Sauna on the Gallery’s riverside terrace – later drop-in’s will include opportunities to get involved!

Gallery Location Stanley Picker Gallery is situated on a small island on the Hogsmill River, behind Kingston School of Art, an approx. 10-minute walk from Kingston Town Centre. We have free onsite parking via Portland Road. For directions visit www.stanleypickergallery.org/about/visit/

Accessibility Stanley Picker Gallery is a ground level and accessible venue, with facilities, however, please note, there are low-level artworks to walk on (optional) in the current exhibition space and a larger number of hay bales. Please inform us of any allergies. A film about the project on a large-screen television creates an echo in the space and will be played with the volume lowered. Sensory bags are available, and visuals provided to support communication. We are committed to being an inclusive venue, and are happy to discuss your child’s access needs ahead of time. See contact details below.

Clothing Our activities can sometimes be messy, and with this exhibition our visitors have been picking up hay!

All materials are included & hot/cold drinks provided
