Stanley Picker Fellow Andy Holden and artist David Raymond Conroy have adapted for the stage a selection of extracts from David Foster Wallace’s book Brief Interviews with Hideous Men (pub.1999). Wallace’s book, a collection of short stories and fictionalized interview transcripts in which the opening question is omitted, examines the possibility of complete sincerity and truth within a modern relationship.
It speaks about judgment and value, about seduction and disappointment, about comedy, and obsession and pathos. It seems to be able to propose incredibly difficult unsolvable questions in the most straightforward way… – Andy Holden and David Raymond Conroy.
Former Stanley Picker Gallery Interns, Emma Hutley, Dan Townend and Adam Jones have joined the production team to provide support with the preparation stages and delivery of this performance which will feature a cast of four actors accompanied by projections, live music, specially crafted props and contemporary staging techniques to comprise what promises to be a truly unique audience experience.
Andy Holden’s Fellowship exhibition The Laws of Motion in a Cartoon Landscape will take place at the Stanley Picker Gallery 5 December 2012 – 2 February 2013.
