Black, Asian and minority ethnic students face significant barriers to obtaining relevant work experience and graduate entry level cultural sector positions. In 2020-21 Stanley Picker Gallery and our partner venue Dorich House Museum completed a Kingston University funded research study to assess student professional development needs in this area. In response to the project findings, the Gallery and Museum are funding Creative Kickstart, a dedicated student-led programme of professional development support for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students. This is being led by Kingston School of Art alumnus and film-maker Kyle Campbell-Pope.Kyle is launching the project January 2022 with two networking events led by artists of colour, including presentations, workshops, and open conversations about practice, professional skills, and advice for emerging creatives. These events will be used to establish a student collective to determine future events and contribute to Creative Kickstart’s aim of developing opportunities for multi-disciplinary practice and collaborative networks. Please see below to book and contact the Gallery with any questions or to get involved.
