Matile Cerruti Quara will lead a creative workshop conceived in response to the relaxing and meditative qualities Yuri Suzuki’s Sound of the Waves. Exploring the possibilities offered by a seemingly alien yet intuitively domestic soundscape, taking a moment to symbiotically and symbolically pause at the beach, the scope of the workshop is to align one’s internal flow throughout the natural and unpredictable marine symphony channeled by Suzuki’s sonic cylinders. In the metaphor of the wave, the meditation will follow its own looped climax, with a choreographed, Qi Gong-inspired incipit to gain our momentum, followed by a phase of steady relaxation and visualisation, and concluding with a final, energetic release. Matilde Cerruti Quara’s workshop is part of a wider series of performances and talks curated by Yuri Suzuki and the quarterly design journal Disegno to celebrate Suzuki’s Furniture Music exhibition at Stanley Picker Gallery.
Operating across poetry, visual arts and fashion Matilde Cerruti Quara (b.1991 Italy. Lives and works in London) has been shaping a polymathic, interactive research, shifting from the position of observer to that of the subject of curiosity, from the role of anthropologist to that of performer. Her work researches hands-on the aesthetics of rituals, alongside their determinants, socioeconomic influences and consequences on the idea of identification of the Self. Cerruti Quara is a contributor to L’Uomo Vogue, for which she developed the series In the studio with, where she’s been intertwining the role of author, creative director and fashion editor.
