Students Exhibit Design for Stanley Picker Gallery Riverside

At Ecobuild 2012, the world’s largest exhibition for sustainable design, construction and the built environment held at the EdExcel Exhibition Centre in London (20-22 March), postgraduate students from Kingston University’s School of Architecture are showing part of a full size section of a new external space they are designing and building for the Stanley Picker Gallery as part of this summer’s refurbishment programme. Their three metre high construction, made from sustainable Portuguese cork oak blocks, will face the Hogsmill River, transforming a previously unused space into a special riverside terrace for Gallery visitors to enjoy.
The Gallery will be closed to the public while the refurbishment of the building, including the new riverside terrace, takes place. Meanwhile we will be staging No Competition! An ambitious off-site programme of artist projects exploring the relationship between art and non-competitive sport leading up to the London 2012 Olympics. The Gallery will reopen in time to celebrate its 15th birthday and pay tribute to Stanley Picker on the 30th anniversary of his death with a set of exciting contemporary commissions and a special exhibition about the Picker House and its architect Kenneth Wood.
