Get Creative: Drawing from nature

Courtest Cerys Scorey

The theme for this week’s newsletter with Dorich House Museum is Young Creatives to celebrate Children’s Art Week, International Youth Arts Festival and Young KAOS Prize 2020, and the creativity of the many children and young people that we work with throughout the year at both our venues.

This year, Children’s Art Week will take place online, at home and in schools across three weeks until 19 July. The theme for this week is The Natural World. Our Museum & Gallery Assistant Cerys has designed an activity Drawing from Nature which you can try at home whatever your age!

“Drawing doesn’t always have to mean using pens and pencils. We can use things found in nature to make marks and textures, and maybe even invent a whole new way of drawing! I often use nature to make art because it reminds me that not everything has to be perfect. A strange stick found in the park or a unique leaf found in the forest, can help us to create unique art too.”

We would love to see some of your creations! Please share any pictures by tagging us on Instagram @stanleypicker or Twitter @pickergallery or by e-mailing it to stanleypickergallery@kingston.ac.uk.
