Hackspace workshop at Kingston University is running a collaborative project with the Stanley Picker Gallery involving students and staff from the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture. A brief has been set asking participants to respond to the role of emerging technologies in environments of protest and to produce a piece of work that either uses interactivity to protest or protests against interactivity.
In these particularly fraught times of political change and unrest are we, as human beings, in danger of becoming too passive? How can we use these technologies to convey ideas and persuade? How can this be harnessed for the use of protest?
The project will culminate in TECHNO, an Evening Salon led by Hackspace with speakers and an exhibition of contributing works on Wednesday 29th April.
The Stanley Picker Gallery Evening Salons are (usually) staged in the Gallery Lobby on the last Wednesday of each month. The aim of the Salon programme is to create a regular evening event and a space for students, staff and others to participate in varied, lively discussions and debate around art, design and culture. Updates are published on the Students section of our website and more information, please contact Julia Jarvis.
