Second in the Black – Other series, Kingston University student and practicing artist Beatrice Carey, explores the psychological ties and influences of heritage on one’s idea of being and home with Of Home and Heritage. Carey’s presentation in Stanley Picker Gallery’s Lobby – her first solo exhibition in London – will act as prelude to her exhibition series of the same title, to be staged at multiple sites across the capital throughout Spring 2018.
Carey, through film, photography and audio, interrogates the notion of the collective Black monolith identity. Her research and artistic outcomes are an examination of self and cultural alienation, which explore how personal relationships influence notions of nostalgia and belonging.
Supported by Kingston University’s Equality Diversity and Inclusion department, the evening reception will include live performances by Kamal Mohamed, Shelisha Johnson, and Ayo Oloyede.
