Stanley Picker Gallery are pleased to support Poetry in Motion, an installation of moving imagery created in response to personally selected haikus and alternative texts, and inspired by themes of authorship, migration and the ephemeral.
Poetry in Motion has been curated by 3rd year BA Psychology students from Kingston University’s Faculty of Art and Social Sciences as part of their module Psychology of Art and Film led by Dr Fatima Maria Felisberti, with exhibited artworks selected by the curators following an open submission promoted through University networks. Prior to their showcase, students participated in a practical and discussion based workshop inspired by the gallery’s current project P!CKER and Elaine Lustig Cohen Looking Backward to Look Forward. The subsequent arrangement of their own work within the gallery lobby references the approaches of P!CKER curator Prem Krishnamurthy, and the late Herbert Bayer, whose piece Extended Field of Vision (1930) hangs in our main gallery. Bayer, known for his writings on exhibition design and contributions to the Bauhaus movement, was an associate of Lustig Cohen.
