Lobby: ZOO! An exhibition by United Response

Welcome to the United Response ZOO! United Response is a nationwide organisation that supports adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health issues, live independent lives. United Response is one of Stanley Picker Gallery’s most valued partners, with members visiting regularly – we are delighted to now be hosting, and visiting, and exhibition of their own making.

Matthew Campbell, Enterprise Manager at United Response writes

Over the last 6 months our Monday night pottery group, have been creating a zoo using clay, paints and other household objects. The group have faced numerous challenges in the aftermath of national lockdowns but with the support of Kirsty Wright (our very talented pottery instructor) we are ready to showcase our work. We have and tears, smiles and something in-between but the group have overcome issues to produce an amazing exhibition.

The United Response Zoo was funded through The Tesco bags for life project, which asked community groups to develop artwork that incorporates community spirit and working with others. This project has seen a wide range of abilities come together and work as a team to recreate a zoo like you have never seen. Outcomes of this project include but have not been limited to: Community engagement, teamwork, fine monitor skills, communication, group discussions and much, much more.

From pink polar bears to blue birds you will have to see it to believe it.

This is the first stop in our tour of the zoo, so if you would like more information then please contact Matthew.Campbell@unitedresponse.org.uk.
